Betty June Horn was born in Ellensburg, Washington on May 16, 1931 to Harold and Dolly Payne. Betty was a teacher at Lost Hills School for 27 years. She held a BA in elementary education from Washington State University. Betty was 82 years old when she passed away on July 23, 2013 in Bakersfield, California. She lived her life in Shafter after she married Wayne Horn. Betty was active in Camp Fire Girls and was a leader in the Maple 4-H Club. She led a Guide Dogs for the Blind group for 10 years. She was very active at Congregational Bible Church where she taught Sunday school and was a member of her church circle ladies group. She was a member of "21" Club and Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher's Society. Betty loved everyone she ever met and looked at life through a positive light. Her home was always open to animals and children no matter the time or day. She met you with open arms and a happy woo woo woo! Betty was loved deeply by her family and friends and will be truly missed. Betty is survived by her children Laura Ward (Jay), Julianne Kirschenmann (Kenneth), and Eric Horn (Tena); grandchildren Pollianne, Jocelyn, and Ellen Ward, Elliott, Derric (Jessica), and Clint Kirschenmann, Brittany and Kyle Horn and great-grand daughter Kallie Kirschenmann. She is also survived by her loving sister Patty (Jimmy) Eastham. She is preceded in death by her father and mother Harold and Dolly Payne, and Wayne Horn. We want to thank the caregivers at Glenwood Gardens (Clair Bridge Unit) that gave her wonderful care. Funeral Service is set for 10am at the Congregational Bible Church in Shafter on July 29, 2013. Viewing is from 3-6pm on July 28, 2013 at Peters Funeral Home- 844 E. Lerdo Hwy, Shafter. Donations may be made to Guide Dogs for the Blind or the Congregational Bible Church of Shafter.
