Bess was the tenth of ten children born to James and Leota Thomas in Chickasha, OK, but she called Shafter, CA her home since 1942. Soon after graduating Shafter High School in 1948, Bess married Carl Taffera to whom she was a devoted wife and business partner for 59 years. During those years, Bess was proud to qualify for Women-Owned Business certification. Though an excellent business woman, Bess' true passion was for her family, her friends, her many involvements in Shafter community and church activities, and of course, playing duplicate bridge in which she achieved a Silver Life Master rating. Bess was generous with her time, her energy and her heart. She was that friend that could be counted on to help in any way large or small. Whether just listening with an understanding ear or organizing a dinner for the multitudes, Bess was there for you. We will miss her gracious, sharing spirit that touched so many lives. Friends are invited to lunch and a Celebration of Life on February 7, 2015, Bakersfield Community House, 2020 R Street, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.
