Obituary

Bertha Louise Koop was born March 30, 1927 in Corn, Oklahoma to Aaron and Louise (Wohlgemuth) Schmidt. The family moved to Hillsboro, Kansas where Bertha attended elementary school and graduated from high school. Bertha went on to attend Tabor College for two years. Bertha and Wallace Koop were married on October 17, 1947 in the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church. Bertha and Wally moved to Shafter in 1956 and later moved to Visalia in 1971. Bertha worked for Hillsboro Bank, Bank of America in Shafter, Maple School in Shafter, and Redwood High School in Visalia. She also worked with Wally in their business, Valley Electrical Suppliers. During retirement years she and her husband volunteered with several churches on building projects up and down the West Coast. Wally and Bertha moved to Shafter in 1992 to be near their daughter, Sandra Wiedmann. Sandra passed away in 2005 and they moved back to Visalia in 2006. Bertha was a loving wife for 61 years to Wallace and a devoted mother and grandmother who was valued by her family and friends as a woman of prayer. Bertha is survived by her husband, Wallace Koop; son, Ronald and wife, Susan; five grandchildren, Carrie Martinez and husband, Andre; Brad Wiedmann and wife, Dania; Jana Wold and husband, Jeremy; Don Wiedmann and wife, Alma; Angela Mack and husband, David; a great-great- grandchild, Ezra Martinez. A graveside service under the direction of Peters Funeral Home will be conducted Thursday, July 31, 2008 at 9 a.m. at Shafter Memorial Park for Bertha Louise Koop, age 81, who passed away July 25, 2008 in Visalia. A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 31, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Neighborhood MB Church, 5505 Riggin Avenue in Visalia. Pastor Grayson Piepgrass will officiate the services.
