Bertha Funk was born September 3, 1913 the second child of Jacob & Nellie (Sawatzky) Funk in Chinook, Montana. She lived in Montana and Texas before moving to Shafter in 1934. While living in Shafter Bertha worked as a retail sales clerk at the department store. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, Menno, Johnnie and Arthur and 1 sister, Helena. She is survived by her brother Arnold Funk and wife Salome of Bakersfield and numerous nieces and nephews. Bertha went home to be with the Lord on August 14, 2007 in Shafter. A graveside funeral service will be held Friday, August 17 at 11am at Shafter Memorial Park. Pastor John Cooper, Chaplain with Optimal Hospice will officiate and interment will follow. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 16 at Peters Funeral Home, Shafter from 2pm until 8pm.
