Bernice Josephine Struempf was born May 26, 1918, in Rich Fountain, Missouri, to Frank and Genevieve Schroeder. She married Gus Struempf on July 6, 1938. Bernice was employed as a rural route mail carrier with the United States Post Office for 15 years. She enjoyed her flower garden, and playing Pinochle and Bridge. Bernice was very active and enjoyed bowling, piano, and square dancing. Bernice was also very involved with St. John's Catholic Church, St. John's Women's Club, the Altar Society, and the Knights of Columbus (with her husband). Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Gus (1992); parents, Frank and Genevieve; infant son, Allen Henry; great granddaughter, Nicole Barnett; and 4 brothers. She is survived by her sons, Gary and wife Roywanna of Riverside, Tim and wife, Carla of Bakersfield; daughters, Carole Smith and husband, Sterling of Wasco, Janet Mosley and husband, Robbyn of Fresno, Jane Moon and husband, Larry of Bakersfield; sisters, Vernita Shell and Marilyn Hoffman both Bakersfield; 6 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at Peters Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 6, 2008, at 6pm, for Bernice Josephine Struempf, age 89, of Bakersfield, who passed away February 1, 2008, in Bakersfield. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, February 7, 2008, at 10am at St. John's Church, Wasco. Interment will follow at Wasco Memorial Park. A visitation will be held at Peters Funeral Home, Wasco on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 from 2 to 8pm.
