Bernice Gwendolyn Hanson, 85 years old, went peacefully to be with our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 23, 2014, with her family by her side in Wasco, California. Bernice was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 21, 1929 to James and Ida Bertha Hobbs. She was the youngest of four children. When Bernice was a sophomore in High School, she moved with her parents to Pomona, California where she attended and graduated from Pomona High School. It was in Pomona where she met her husband Duncan James Hanson. Bernice and Duncan were married in 1953. In 1961, Armstrong nursery transferred Duncan, Bernice and their three daughters-Sharon, Donna, and Vicki to a little town called Wasco, where they raised their family and made many lasting friendships. Bernice loved her Lady Elk friends, her church friends, and her monthly bunco buddies. Bernice was loved by everyone she met. She had a beautiful smile and a heart of gold. She loved to read and spend time with the Lady Elks participating in many fundraisers. She enjoyed spending her vacations at the Colorado River-boating, water-skiing, and socializing with all of her river friends. Bernice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, never missing any event her girls and grandchild participated in. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Grace and Helen, and one brother, Raymond. She is survived by her loving and soul mate of sixty-one years Duncan, three daughters, Sharon Cotter (Howard), Donna Porter (Mike), Vicki Green, five granddaughters, Kimberly, Tiffani, Dawn, Kristen, Amber and one grandson KK, twelve great-grandchildren, her extended family members, and many loving friends. A funeral service was held at First United Methodist Church on Monday, December 29, 2014 at 11am in Wasco for Bernice Hanson. Past Alex Camber officiated and interment followed at Wasco Memorial Park.
