IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bernice
Ellis
January 30, 1913 – July 22, 2008
"Bernie" went to be with his Heavenly Father Tuesday afternoon, 7/22/08, after living a joyous and healthy ninety-five and a half years. Born in Hobart, Oklahoma January 30, 1913 to James L. and Venus M. Ellis, he moved with his parents and baby sister to Wasco in 1920 where his dad farmed north of town. He graduated from Wasco High School in 1933, did custom potato digging in the later 1930s, and built his Ellis Repair Shop (747 F St.) before marrying Betty Lou (Mussetter) in 1941. He was a MSgt in truck maintenance during WWII on the Stillwell Road in Burma. After the war, he resumed his auto and tractor repair business, which he operated until 1980. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Wasco, being a faithful usher, heating system operator, and Methodist Men member, during his 80-year membership. He had a quiet, but active, trust in Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. Bernie was a humorous man, a helpful man, loved to fix anything that was broken and improve anything that was not, savored food, built camping trailers to take his family to many wonderful destinations, and thoroughly enjoyed the activities of "the Gang." He was grateful for the loving, in-home care he received from Candy, Kathy, Dee, and Martha during his last years. Bernie was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Betty Lou, and his sister, Frieda. He is survived by sons Bill (wife Kathy) and Bob; grandson David (wife Dawnelle), granddaughters Karen & Stephanie; and great grandchildren Melanie, Katie, Gracie, & Isaac. You are invited to visitation at Peters Funeral Home in Wasco on Sunday from 5 to 8 PM or Monday morning (8:30 to 9:30 AM). The graveside service is at 10 AM Monday at Wasco Memorial Park followed by a memorial service at 11 AM at the First United Methodist Church, Wasco. Memorial gifts may be made to the First United Methodist Church (1441 7th Street, Wasco 93280) or the Wasco Historical Society (PO Box 186, Wasco 93280).
