Bernice Elaine Almberg was born February 11, 1936 in Santa Maria, California to Stephen and Helen (Mettler) Fairchild. In 1957 she attended Occidental College in Los Angeles and then transferred to UC Berkeley where in 1961 she earned her BA Degree. Bernice met Thomas L. Almberg during their college years and they were married in Pensacola, Florida in 1958. They lived in Alaska during his military service and settled in Shafter in 1961. Bernice loved gardening and music; Bernice used her love of music in service to the Lord, playing the piano, auto harp and the accordion. She was active in the children's ministries at the Shafter Congregational Church, Women's Aglow, and the music ministry at High Visions Ministry-Victory Outreach. Bernice was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherri Almberg, 1993; her husband, Tom Almberg, 2002; and her parents. She is survived by her son, Eric Almberg and wife, Lindy; brother, Richard Fairchild; and grandchildren, Brittany, David and Michaela. A memorial service will be held February 1st at the Shafter Congregational Bible Church at noon. Pastor Arthur Plaza of High Visions Ministry will officiate the service.
