After meeting Mary at the Doctor's office, where she was working as a nurse in 1963, they married 4 months later and shared 40 loving years together. Barney is survived by their six children, 4 queens and 2 jacks, and their spouses; Susan Covey of Bakersfield, Theresa and Michael Lee of Prosper, Texas, Jena and Joe Salazar of Bakersfield, Andrea Covey and boyfriend Jeff Loader of Bakersfield, Chris and Monnie Covey of Bakersfield, and Eric Covey of Bakersfield; and by his treasured grandchildren, Bryan, Aaron, Taylor, Jack, McKenzie, Andrew, Meagan, Paisley, Mathew, Sierra, Chase, Abigail and Madeline. He was a decorated WWII veteran and after being honorably discharged he worked for over 40 years as a mechanical engineer in the paper industry. He moved to Bakersfield with his growing family in 1973. He was a devout Catholic who sent all his children through OLPH and Garces Memorial High. He enjoyed his daily trip to Cindy's Restaurant for coffee and had many friends there. Casket bearers will include Chris Covey, Eric Covey, Joe Salazar, Michael Lee, Bryan McCullar, Mike Doremus, Darrick Grisham and Jeffrey Loader. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
