IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Beatrice
Thompson
April 7, 1911 – November 9, 2007
Beatrice was born to John and Ida (Ogden) Kinsey on April 7, 1911, in Indian Territory, Oklahoma. She married Jack Thompson in 1931 and they moved to Shafter in 1937 during the Dust Bowl era with her two young sons. The times were hard but Jack was able to build a two-room dirt floor house for them to live in. After many years of hard work they were able to better their lives. Beatrice was a member of the Congregational Church and was active in the Women's Fellowship; she was also a member of the Shafter Women's Club, the Guild House in Bakersfield and North Kern Golf Club. Beatrice served her family as a homemaker and enjoyed china painting and making lamp shades. She also enjoyed gardening and most people will remember seeing her taking long walks. Beatrice traveled to many places including Mexico City, Canada, China, Hawaii and many of the states. She spent summers at the beach and the grandchildren remember the good times they had as they took turns spending the summers with her. Beatrice is survived by her sons, B. Jack Thompson and wife Jimmie of Shafter, John Thompson and his wife Georgia of Glenville; brother, Dexter Kinsey and wife Lorene of Oklahoma; grandchildren Doug Thompson and wife Katie, Dave Thompson and wife Cindy, Tracy Thompson Callahan, Dana Shrove and husband Lloyd, Scott Thompson and Sherry Harper and husband Paul; 13 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. Her husband Jack Thompson preceded her in death in 1967 and also her parents and 11 siblings. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 12 at 10:30am at the Congregational Church of Shafter for Beatrice Thompson, age 96, of Shafter who passed away November 9, in Shafter. Pastor Mike Kotrla will officiate and interment will follow at Shafter Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at Peters Funeral Home on Sunday, November 11 from 2pm to 8pm.
