Barbra Kay Hartl, a 48-year resident of California and 18-year resident of the Morongo Basin, died March 16, 2008, in Desert Regional Medical Center. She was 72 years old. The daughter of Fred Fanning and Martha Brown, she was born July 10, 1936, in Spencer, N.Y. She was married to Mark Hartl for 53 years. Mrs. Hartl is survived by son Terry Hartl of Yucca Valley, daughter Valerie Hill of Mission Viejo, son Steven Hartl of Tustin, son Thomas Hartl of Castle Rock, Colo., daughter Nancy Katz of Phoenix, Ariz., daughter Sally Carrington of Scottsdale, Ariz., 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A telephone operator, she worked for General Telephone for 20 years before she retired.
