IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara Gwen
Teague
August 20, 1930 – January 29, 2012
Barbara Gwen Teague August 20, 1930 – January 29, 2012 Gwen Teague was born August 20, 1930, at Bakersfield Mercy Hospital. She grew up and went to school in Delano. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Kenneth and Mary Teague and her dear friend, Shirley Peterson. Gwen died peacefully at home on January 29, 2012, with her best friend, traveling companion, golfing buddy, and caregiver, Scotttie Miller, at her side. It is a blessing that she is now with her Lord and Savior and rests in peace without the pain and suffering that she has endured for so many years . Gwen was a devoted high school teacher, coach and counselor. She loved her students and they loved her. She was highly respected and loved by her fellow staff members. Gwen started teaching in 1954 at Bakersfield High School and then moved to East High School, where she finished her teaching and counseling career. She often said that "she was out the gate in 88". In her retirement years Gwen enjoyed traveling, golfing , skiing, and giving back to her community. For many years she volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister at Mercy Hospital. She was a devout Christian and was a member of the First Congregational Church UCC. Gwen was an avid golfer and belonged to the Kern River Ladies Golf Club, Missing Links Golf Club and the Sundale Country Club. She had many "holes in one" and had three of them witnessed in 2000.One of Gwen's greatest legacies was her commitment to Relay for Life. She has been one of the most successful individual fundraisers in Bakersfield for many years. In Gwen's memory, friends may, if they wish, send contributions made to the American Cancer Society, 1523 California Ave., 93304 with "Relay for Gwen Teague" on the memo line. This will carry on her great work. Her Aunt Edna and several cousins from the Santa Maria area survive Gwen. Many thanks to Doctor Susan Helper and Doctor Stephen Helvie, caregivers Yolanda Navarro and Sonyia Rodriguez and friend Kyle Ray for their special care of Gwen. As per Gwen's wish, there will be no services. Sign Gwen's guest book at www.GoldenValleyMemorialCare.com.
