IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara Jean
Mizell
August 28, 1935 – February 17, 2025
Barbara Jean Mizell
August 28, 1935 - February 17, 2025
Barbara Mizell peacefully left this world surrounded by her family and entered joyfully into her heavenly home on February 17, 2025. She was 89 years old.
Born to Guy and Genive Blaylock on August 28, 1935, Barbara was the sister to Gwendolyn, Glenda, Patricia, and Richard Blaylock. She graduated from Porterville High School in 1953. Soon after graduation, Barbara married the love of her life, Harvey Mizell, on June 27, 1953. Together they raised their four children, Sandi, Susan, Vickie, and Randy, in Shafter, California, establishing deep roots in the community as well as in their church, the Shafter Pentecostal Church of God. Barbara worked as a librarian at Shafter High School until she and Harvey retired and embraced a life of adventure through RV travel, Cruise getaways, or island adventures. Barbara was most happy when surrounded by her family, and created deep-rooted family traditions that continue to be cherished by all. Her unwavering faith in God was at the center of her life, and she was always quick to share of God's faithfulness.
Barbara leaves behind a legacy of love. She is survived by her children, Vickie and Scott Hight, Randy and Lisa Mizell, Alan Greagrey, and Jerry Arney; grandchildren; Amy and Adam Straw, Megan and Justin Hallgren, Katie and Brian Gallagher, Natasha and Brad Hobbs, Lynsie and James Anchordoquy, Brandi and Colton Baxley; great-grandchildren; Drew, Maggie, Ethan, Brinkley, Sophia, Bria, Henry, Emmarie, Callen, Benjamin, and Nora; sisters, Glenda Parsley and Paulette Blaylock; many great nieces and nephews, extended family, and dear friends. Though we mourn her passing, we take comfort in knowing that she has been reunited with loved ones who went before her. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Mizell; daughters, Sandi Greagrey and Susan Arney; parents, Guy and Genive Blaylock; and siblings, Gwendolyn Smith, Patricia Blaylock, and Richard Blaylock.
We are comforted that Barbara is now resting in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. A private interment will take place at Shafter Memorial Park and a public service will take place on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Westside Family Fellowship in Wasco, California. Arrangements made by Peters Funeral Home of Shafter, California.
