Baldemar Garza Gomez was born August 16, 1946 in Weslaco, Texas one of 12 children born to Tomasa (Garza) and Maximino D. Gomez. The family moved to Shafter in 1965 and on July 12, 1967 Baldemar married his sweetheart, Socorro Acevedo. Baldemar spent his whole life working in agriculture. He was a hard worker and had been employed by many different farmers including, Handel Wilson Farms, Mettler & Sons, Dan White Farms, Belridge Farms and George Nikkel Enterprises. Baldemar loved to joke and could turn the saddest times into happy times; he had a great sense of humor and was loving and caring. His door was always open to anyone in need. He loved to gamble and play the slots at Eagle Mountain, listen to Country Western or Tex-Mex music, keep his cars clean and most of all, dine out with family. He had a sweet tooth and every morning enjoyed his sweet bread (pan dulce) and coffee. He loved being a grandpa and he was an excellent husband who loved his wife and wanted to keep her happy. Baldemar will be greatly missed by his family. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Socorro Gomez; children, Baldemar, Jr., Ruben, and Rachel; brother, Johnny Gomez and wife MaryAnn Gomez; sisters, Oralia Gomez, Mary Gomez, Rosemary Gomez, Mary Gracie Reyna and Tomasa Jara and husband Juan Jara; 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; and many other loving family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; great-grandson, Aiden; and 5 brothers, Agapito, Paul, Maximino Jr., Narciso, Reynaldo and Lino Garza. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 31 at 10am at Peters Funeral Home for Baldemar Garza Gomez, age 66, of Bakersfield who passed away October 28, 2012 in Bakersfield. An evening service will be held the night before, Tuesday, October 30 at 6pm with visitation starting at 5pm. Pastor Epifanio Bernal of Rose of Sharon Church will officiate and Interment will be at Shafter Memorial Park.
