Aurora V. Lopez was born in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico, to Roque and Maria Valenzuela, on September 11, 1929. She came to Kern County in 1964, living briefly in Delano and McFarland prior to settling in Shafter in 1972. She worked for Belridge and Superior Farms as a laborer harvesting grapes and potatoes. Aurora loved going to Eagle Mountain Casino every other Sunday after church. She was a member of the Shafter Senior Citizen's group and enjoyed the trips to Vegas and the monthly birthday lunches. Aurora was preceded in death by her parents, Roque and Maria; and one brother, Francisco Javier Valenzuela. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca and husband, Robert; granddaughters and their husbands, Rubi and Hildo Perales, Julissa and Richard Barrera, and Johanna and Mauricio Alcala; 14 great grandchildren; sisters, Antonia Valenzuela, Rachel Valenzuela, Maria Antoinette Lopez, Adela Tamayo, Rita Figueroa and Blanca De La Corte; brothers, Manuel, Roque Jr., Mario, Rene, and Angel Valenzuela. Recitation of the Holy Rosary was held at Peters Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 14, 2007, at 7pm, for Aurora V. Lopez, age 77, of Shafter, who passed away in Bakersfield. A Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, August 15, 2007, at 10am. Father Pedro Umana of St. Therese's Catholic Church officiated the service and interment followed at Shafter Memorial Park.
