Aurelia Diaz Fombona was born January 31, 1937 in Guayameo, Guerrero, Mexico one of seven children born to Refugio and Sofia (Garcia) Diaz. She married Elias Fombona in March of 1964 and they moved to French Camp, California in 1966. In 1970 the family moved back to Guayameo until 1976 when they settled in Arvin. Aurelia worked as a farm laborer for 20 years for Superior Farms. She loved to cook; one of the family favorites was albondigas de pollo. Aurelia loved her sweets, capirotada being her favorite. Aurelia was a strict mother and a loving and sweet grandmother. She raised many of her grandchildren and the family loved to gather at Grandma's for food and fun. Aurelia was preceded in death by her husband Elias who passed away April 23, 2011; her parents; and 2 siblings, Felipe Diaz and Refugio Diaz. She is survived by one son, Pedro Fombona; three daughters, Argelia Alias Fombona, Tina Marie Fombona and Nora Ruesga Fombona; 2 step-children, Lionel Fombona and Ilda Garcia Fombona; three brothers, Savina Diaz, Valdemar Diaz and Gregorio Arizon; one sister, Aureliana Diaz; 18 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; and many other loving family members. Holy Rosary will be said Thursday, October 10, at 7pm at Arvin Funeral Home for Aurelia Diaz Fombona, age 76, of Arvin who passed away October 5, 2013 in Bakersfield. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, October 11, at 10am at St. Thomas Church. Fr. Jorge will officiate the service and interment will follow at South Kern Cemetery, Arvin.
