Audrey Mae (Pope) Hooser was born November 24, 1933 to Edgar and Florence Pope in Bakersfield, CA. where she was raised at Camp 8 on Digorgio Farms. When she was 9 years old, her father passed away at age 57 and the family moved to Arvin, CA. Audrey graduated from Kern County High School, now Bakersfield High School, in 1951 at the age of 17. That summer she worked at Digorgio Farms packing shed where she met Ray Hooser. Audrey went to beauty college and after graduating, she married Ray on June 27, 1952 and they celebrated 66 years together. Ray was drafted into the Army and stationed in Fort Lewis Washington where their daughter Janice Diane was born. They moved back to Arvin, CA where Audrey went to work at a beauty shop. March 18, 1958 their son, Randy Lynn was born. In 1963 Ray built Audrey her own beauty shop in the backyard. Over the years, Audrey had 22 surgeries and stayed strong. In 1988 she closed her beauty shop. Audrey and Ray bought into a campsite in Pismo Beach, CA . They enjoyed traveling with long time friends, the Waldons, close to half the United States. Her other time was her church, family, and grandkids. In 1985 on Ray and Audrey's 33rd anniversary, their granddaughter Nicole was born and in 2005 their great grandson Johnathan, Nicole's son was born on Audrey's 72nd birthday. When Audrey was 2 weeks old, her mother started bringing her to the old Arvin Assembly of God Church and continued to attend after the present church was built. Her brother Bill helped build the church. She attended for 87 years and several years was the WM's treasurer there. In March 2021 she told Randy and Janice to put her in a group home and on the 1st day there she told Randy don't forget to pay my tithes every month. Thanks to son Randy for moving in and taking care of Audrey after Ray passed away on November 1, 2018. Audrey passed away July 16, 2021 at 8:00 a.m. and joined her beloved husband and Jesus. Her last words were, Ray, Ray. She is preceded in death by her husband Ray, parents Edgar and Florence Pope, brothers Bill and Clarence, sisters Alzada and Helen. She is survived by daughter, Janice Garcia (Dan), son Randy Hooser, Grandchildren, Frankie Poyner (Lynda), Nicole Gonzalez (Rafail), great grandchildren, Ashley Fowler (Matt), Dylan, Joshua, Addison, Jose (III), Johnathan, Brianna, Makenzie, Aliyana and Gabriel, great great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jacob, several nephews and nieces.
