Asonda Sue Smith was born March 21, 1947 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Audine (Osborne) and Bill Farmer. She moved to Shafter in the early 1960's and married Joe Earl Smith July 9, 1965. Asonda worked for several years in the flower growing industry at Golden State Nursery. In her younger years Asonda enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She was an excellent cook and the family favorites were her fried chicken and Mexican food. Asonda was a natural care-giver and took in kids who needed her help. She was also known to feed the children in the neighborhood when needed. In her later years, she took great pleasure in having her grandchildren around and taking care of them. Asonda is survived by her husband of 46 years, Joseph Earl Smith, Jr.; sons, Danny, Michael and wife Toni, Joe and Robert and wife Tracy; mother, Audine; twin sister, Wanda Beacon; and many loving grandchildren. Asonda was preceded in death by her father. A graveside service will be held Monday, September 12 at 10am at Shafter Memorial Park for Asonda Sue Smith, age 64, of Shafter who passed away September 6, 2011 in Shafter. Pastor Jim Glasco of the Seventh Standard Church of God will officiate the service and interment will follow. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 11 from 2pm to 8pm at Peters Funeral Home.
