Arvilla Irene Harris was born February 12, 1923 in Quinton, Oklahoma one of eleven children born to Ada Lee (Haworth) and Robert Merle Daniel. The family came to Shafter when Arvilla was six years old, returned to Oklahoma and then settled in Shafter when she was a teenager. Arvilla and Jack Harris were married December 30, 1946 in Shafter. Arvilla worked in the local potato sheds, at the Cotton Research Station and Germaine's Roses as a supervisor in the grafting, hybrid and pollination division. She was an excellent cook and family meals included meatloaf, fried chicken and pot roasts; but it was her awesome desserts that were prized by the family, chocolate rolls, chocolate pie, chocolate gravy and fruit pies. Arvilla was preceded in death by her parents, 9 siblings and her husband of 58 years, Jack who passed away March 31, 2005. She is survived by her son, Dannie and wife Sheryl of Bakersfield; sister Lena Howard of Porterville; 3 grandchildren Danee Parks (Brian), Jenny Harris, Jason Harris (Jennifer); and 2 great grandchildren, Tyler and Emily Parks. A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 4 at 1pm at Peters Funeral Home for Arvilla Irene Harris, age 92, who passed away May 30, 2015 in Bakersfield. Pastor Steve Seymour of the Jesus Saves Pentecostal Church of God will officiate the service and interment will follow at Shafter Memorial Park.. A visitation will be held Thursday, June 4 from 9am to 12:30pm at Peters Funeral Home, Shafter.
