Arturo Gomez Olivares was born June 8, 1924 in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua Mexico. He lived for a short time in Andrews Texas then came to Kern County (Mettler) where he was a tractor driver for McKittrick Farms for 18 years. He relocated his family to Arvin in 1980 where he retired. Arturo enjoyed his quiet time as he was a very private man but always had something to work on. His hobbies were building cars; he built a stock car from scratch. He remodeled his home in Arvin and was proud he did it on his own without much, if any help. Arturo had a stand at the Bear Mountain Swapmeet where he sold tools, whatever tool you were looking for Arturo had it. After the death of his wife, Guillermina, Arturo became ill and was unable to care for himself much; his son Juan provided the care his dad needed while maintaining a full time schedule at work. Although hard at times, the opportunity to bond and hear a lot of Arturo's life was worthwhile. It is a treasured memory that Juan will cherish forever and will pass on some of the history to his children. Arturo Gomez Olivares was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Guillermina 4 months ago (August); son Gerardo (5/2008) and is survived by his sons, Joe and wife Miriam, Sergio and wife Gabby, Juan and wife Tami and Gilbert; daughter, Cecilia Olivares; 10 grandchildren; many friends and acquaintances. Visitation will be held for Arturo Gomez Olivares, age 85 of Arvin, Wednesday December 30, 2009 from 5 to 8pm at Arvin Funeral Home Chapel with Rosary at 7pm.
