Longtime Bakersfield resident Max Newboles passed from this world into his next new adventure on Saturday, June 11, 2011, at the age of 77. Max was born on August 23, 1933, in Lake City, Arkansas. He migrated to Shafter with his family when he was 10 years old. Max graduated from Shafter High School and joined his older brothers in the Marine Corps in 1955. Max served his country for three years, one of those overseas in Korea. When he returned to the US, Max married his wife of 52 years, Marilyn Haviland Newboles, who preceded him in death on August 16, 2008. Max was active in the American Legion, Post 682, based in East Bakersfield. During his lifetime, Max enjoyed playing tennis, golf and spending time with friends and family. Max is survived by his three children, Lori Ferguson and husband Eric of Visalia, CA, David Newboles and wife Julie of Bakersfield, CA, and Matt Newboles and wife Elizabeth of Monarch Beach, CA; seven grandchildren, Christina Brewer, US Navy, based in Bremerton, WA, Kevin Brewer of Visalia, CA, Nathan and Jacob Newboles, both of Bakersfield, CA, and Alec, Alyssa and Aidan Newboles, all of Monarch Beach, CA; and one great-granddaughter, Ashlynn Brewer of Bremerton, WA. Private services will be held for family only. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Max's name to the American Cancer Society.
