Ardith (Doc) Branch of Shafter Passed away on November 20, 2013 at the age of 85 in Bakersfield California after a long illness. Doc was born April 27, 1928 in Ocola, Arkansas to Parents James Branch and Pearl (Perkins) Branch. The family moved to Shafter in 1941. Doc is survived by wife Phyllis Branch and children Lisa Philips of Cozad, Nebraska and Bobby Branch, (Patty) of Columbia, Missouri, one step daughter Kristen Duarte of Shafter. He is also survived by four granddaughters, Crystal Crandall, (Chris), Tawny Branch, Randa Branch, and Lisa Marie. One great granddaughter Amaris Crandall and two step granddaughters, Tiffany Barber and Samantha Downing. He is also survived by one sister, Sarah Sulliven of Bakersfield and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by wife Dorothy Branch, his parents, three sisters and three brothers. Doc served in the Army in North Korea in 1951-1953. After returning to Shafter he worked for Superior Oil Company and McFarland energy for about 25 years. After he retired he liked to travel, go camping and work in his shop. He also served as a campground host at Oceano State Park for several years. Doc was a member of the Shafter American Legion Post 213 and 865 for many years and served as post Chaplain for 3 years. He helped in getting the tall flags up each year for the Memorial Day Service. Doc also volunteered for Senior Sack Day at the Shafter Walker Senior Center for 17 years. He will be greatly missed. Graveside service was held on Monday November 25, 2013, 10am at the Shafter Memorial Park. 18662 Santa Fe Way, Shafter, CA. Pastor Jim Neal Officiating.
