Apolonia G. Rodriguez was born in Coahuila, Mexico, to Refugio and Maria Garcia on February 9, 1908. She moved to Pharr, Texas where she attended school and eventually met and married Gonzalo Rodriguez. The couple lived briefly in several states (Colorado, Arizona, Arkansas, Michigan and Oregon) before finally settling down in 1954, in Buttonwillow. Apolonia enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and doing seek a word crossword puzzles. Apolonia enjoyed life, laughing and making others laugh; she enjoyed telling jokes. At the time of her death Apoplonia was living in Shafter with her granddaughter, Maria. Apolonia was preceded in death by her parents, Refugio and Maria; husband, Gonzalo on August 20, 1979; sons, Rodolfo and Joe Rodriguez. She is survived by her sons, Alejandro of Hawaiian Gardens, Ca., Frank and wife, Julia of Shafter, Ruben and wife, Amelia of Bakersfield, and grandson, Joe, Jr. whom she raised as her son; daughters, Dora and husband, Mario Jimenez of Shafter, Gina and husband, Alvin McClellan of Bakersfield, Maria Refugio Garza of Chicago, and Nieves Esquivel of Texas; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and great great great grandchildren; and many other loving family members. A funeral service was held at Peters Funeral Home on Monday, October 29, 2007, at 10am, for Apolonia G. Rodriguez, age 99, of Shafter, who passed away October 24, 2007, in Bakersfield. Minister Gregorio Salinas of the Iglesia Apostolica de Taft officiated the service and interment followed at Shafter Memorial Park.
