Antonio Chavez was born July 24, 1907 in Mexico to Teofilo and Justa (Mota) Chavez. He moved to California in the late 1960's to Lemoore for 5 years and has been a resident of Wasco for the last 38 years. He worked in agriculture for over 45 years and after retirement began recycling cans. Many people knew Antonio as he walked all over town collecting cans. Antonio was always praying in everything he did, if possible he would have prayed 24 hours a day. Antonio was also a music lover; he enjoyed many types of music including Ranchero, Mariachi, Tamboraso and Banda. Antonio was lovingly cared for by his daughter, Lorenza and granddaughter, Maria for the last 24 years, after his wife passed away. He was loved and will be missed by all his family. Including his sons; Rafael of Lemoore, Ventura of Wasco, Froilan and Jose, both of Lost Hills, and Salvador of New Mexico; daughter, Lorenza of Wasco; and many many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. Antonio's wife, Ramona Valenzuela, passed away on February 18, 1984; and daughter, Natividad Chavez, passed away in 2008. Holy Rosary will be recited Wednesday, February 25, at 7pm at Peters Funeral Home for Antonio M. Chavez, age 101, of Wasco who passed away February 20, 2009 in Shafter. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, February 26, at St. John's Church at 10am. Fr. John Fluetsch will officiate and interment will follow at Lemoore District Cemetery.
