Anna was born on March 1, 1927 in Escondido California to Julius Carl and Margaret Mary Deggelman and passed away peacefully on February 19, 2010 in Bakersfield, California after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Anna graduated from Escondido Union High School in 1944 and attended the College of Mount Saint Joseph in Cincinnati Ohio, attaining a degree in Music Education in 1949. Anna began a forty year teaching career in Bad Nauheim, Germany on the United States Army base during the reconstruction era of the 1950's. When Anna returned to California, she taught at the elementary school in Guadalupe in Santa Maria County, and then moved to Bakersfield when she took a teaching position in the Sunset-Vineland School District. She joined the Rosedale Union School District, where she spent many years teaching elementary grades while raising a family, before her retirement in 1991. Anna completed her Masters degree in counseling from California State University Bakersfield after her retirement, and worked to enhance services to needy children through Haven Counseling. Anna is preceded in death by her parents; her son Victor; brother Eugene Deggelman; nephew Richard and niece Nora Deggelman, and former husband and friend Melvin Dery. Her long battle with Alzheimer's disease was difficult, and our family would like to thank the staff of Glenwood Gardens, Station 2, for years of excellent care. We also sincerely thank Hoffman Hospice for their dedicated support and care of our Mom at the end of her life.
