Obituary

Ann Kliewer Bartel was born on November 22, 1908, in Reedley, Ca. to Jacob P. and Margaret (Enns) Kliewer. She was the last remaining of eleven children. The Lord took her home to be with Him, her parents and all of her brothers and sisters on August 21, 2007. Ann was 98 years and 9 months. Ann was a very strong person and a hard worker. As a young girl she helped take care of her brothers and sisters. During this time she also realized she needed the Lord and accepted Him as personal Savior. Ann met her husband Harvey and they were married on November 16, 1929. They would have three daughters. Ann continued to work on and off throughout her life. She worked at Shafter High School as a cafeteria worker for many years even though she never finished high school herself. She spent some time at a fast food restaurant and as a switchboard operator. During the years just before her retirement, she worked at Brocks' Department store in the Tea Room. Ann will be missed for her sense of humor, her devotion to family and for her sense of style in all areas, but we rejoice that she has entered the gates of heaven to be with her Lord. Ann was also preceded in death by her husband, Harvey; daughters, Marilyn Bartel and La Vonne Nale; son-in-law, James Nale. She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Steinert and husband, Max; six grandchildren; Cheri Huebner, Randy Nale, Stephanie Becker, Jill Witcher, Allison McNeely, Megan Steinert; eleven great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and a very special niece, Jan Witcher. She is also survived by Norma Heckathorn, her devoted caregiver who has unselfishly given of her time and emotions for the last three years. Much appreciation goes to former caregivers, Nellie, Amelia, Jeanie R.N. and Kristan L.V.N. and current caregivers, Socorro, Rocio and Krystal for all their wonderful care. A very heartfelt thank you also is given to Hoffman Hospice and nurses Layne and Kim for rescuing us during the terminal care process. You were truly a God-given blessing! A graveside funeral service under the direction of Peters Funeral Home will be held at Shafter Memorial Park on Saturday, August 25, 2007, at 11:30AM, for Ann Kliewer Bartel of Bakersfield, who passed away August 21, 2007, in Bakersfield. Son-in-law, Max Steinert will officiate the service and interment will follow.
