Obituary

Andy Washington Hinkle was born on April 10, 1929, in Crowell, Texas. He died Monday December 3, 2012 at San Joaquin Hospital. He was the oldest of four boys born to Grady and Dessie Hinkle. A.W. resided in Kern County with his loving wife, Inez Hinkle, for over 50 years. He held several different jobs, but primarily worked as a heavy equipment operator in land leveling. His most important job, however, was taking care of Inez, who passed away on November 25, 2006. He was most well known in Shafter for being the man who rode down the street on his motorized chair, giving out tootsie rolls to neighborhood children. He was also completely devoted to his best friend, Tinkerbelle, the Chihuahua who rode between his feet on that chair. He is survived by his daughters, Carolyn of Arkansas, Evelyn, JoAnn, and Martha, all of Bakersfield, as well as his brother, Herman, of Kansas, and grandchildren. A.W. was loved by his family, and he will be greatly missed. A graveside service will be conducted by Peters Funeral Home Funeral Home at Shafter Memorial Park on Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at 9:30 a.m. arrangements under the direction of Peters Funeral Home Funeral Home, Wasco.
