IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Amparo Aguayo
Padilla
December 11, 1936 – June 7, 2016
Amparo Aguayo Padilla was born in the mining town of Concheño, in Chihuahua, Mexico on December 11, 1936 to Amparo Hernández and Luis Angel Aguayo. Despite the limited schooling opportunities available to her, she valued education highly and was able to complete a sixth grade education through persistence and hard work. She moved to Juarez, Mexico as a teenager, and used to cross the border into El Paso, Texas everyday to work as a housekeeper. She remembered her frustration when she first lived in the United States because she spoke no English, and her happiness as her efforts paid off and she became fluent in the language. She took great pride in her many years of service as a housekeeper and nanny, occupations in which she worked for many years. She met Armando Padilla in Lakeport, California in 1957, and began a romance with him that led to marriage in 1968. Their love flourished for forty-seven years, until Armando's death in 2015. Together they raised their two children with great love, tenderness, and pride. They moved to Wasco in 1981. Once married, Amparo focused on the hard but rewarding work of homemaking and raising her children. She was a devoted and loving mother. She and her husband shared a great love of dancing, and often could be found in each others arms waltzing in their living room. Amparo also took pleasure in gardening, cooking, and, most of all, family and friends. She delighted in gathering her loved ones together for reunions, recounting the family history while looking at old photo albums, and brightening her friends' days with phone calls, cards, and good cheer. Though very modest and humble, she allowed herself one vanity: her long, perfectly filed and beautifully painted nails, which were legendary within the family. She was known by many terms of love and endearment, including Ampi, mamí, abuelita, payito, and pommy. All of these names expressed the same sentiment: deep affection for a gentle soul whose love was boundless, and who was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Our hearts ache at her loss, but we take comfort and inspiration in her memory, in having witnessed her long life full of love, laughter, and joy, and in knowing that she is up above now, dancing forever with her beloved husband. Theirs was a love story for the ages. She is survived by her daughter Yolanda and son David; her son-in-law Philip and her grandchildren Lucía and Nicolás; her sister Beatrice and brothers Luis Angel, Gilberto, Alfredo, Rubén and Héctor Javier; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Armando, her mother Amparo, her father Luis Angel, and her brothers Raúl Antonio and Raúl. Viewing and recitation of the Holy Rosary were held on Sunday, June 12, 2016, from 4-8pm at Peters Funeral Home, Wasco. Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated at St. John's Catholic Church on Monday, June 13, 2016 at 11am. Fr Raúl Sánchez officiated.
