Alynne C. Wheeler, 85, died Feb. 16, 2009, at Whittier Memorial Hospital in Whittier. She was born in Portland, Maine, in 1923 to Hubert and Hazel Rollo. She and her husband, Lyle Wheeler, moved to Yucca Valley in 1978. Mr. Wheeler preceded her in death in 1980. Mrs. Wheeler was a teacher's aid in Mary Slatton's second-grade class for 15 years. She was a hospice volunteer and Solo-Living Caller for over a decade.. She enjoyed membership in Red Hats and monthly lunches with her group of Yucca Valley friends. Mrs. Wheeler is survived by daughter and son-in-law Alita and Jim Sevin of La Mirada and daughter Nora Fraser of Ojo Caliente, N.M.; grandsons Mason Steinberg and his wife, Melissa, of Santa Monica and Kyle Fraser of Thousand Oaks; stepdaughter Sheila Morgan and her family in Massachusetts; and niece Betty Freed of Yucca Valley. She also is survived by sister and brother-in-law Corita and Charles Hackel of Tucson, Ariz. A private family gathering in March will commemorate her life.
