Sylvester Schulte
September 14, 1933 – August 1, 2014
Alvin (Pete) was born to Sylvester and Elizabeth Schulte on 9-14-33 in Mary's Home Missouri. The family moved to Wasco in 1934 along with his older brother Wayne. Pete graduated from St. John's in 1947 and Wasco High School in 1951. Pete went on to graduate from Porterville JC in 1953. Uncle Sam drafted Pete in to the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany while serving as MP and playing football. Pete returned to Wasco where he joined his dad and brother Don in the family farming business growing potatoes, cotton and alfalfa. He farmed in the greater Wasco area Pete later changed his career path to a hay broker for Lucio Hay Co until his retirement in 2010. Pete met his best friend Dolores Schulte June 26, 1957 at the Bakersfield Sheepman's Picnic and was later married on January 30, 1960 at St. John's in Wasco. Together they raised their very active three children Teresa, Julie and Tom. Pete was pre-deceased by his father (Sylvester 1980) mother (Elizabeth 2000) and sister (Shirley Ann 1936). He is survived by his wife Dolores, and his three children: Teresa Schulte Peterson (husband Phillip), Julie Schulte Priest (husband Michael), and Tom Schulte (wife Kathleen). He has six grandkids: Amanda Schulte Rodriguez (JP), Evan Schulte, Hannah Peterson Ridderwall (Calle), Garrett Peterson, Paige Marie Peterson, and Jenna Grace Priest. Pete also leaves behind one great-granddaughter Zori Rodriguez and 1 great-grandson Noah Ridderwall. Pete is also survived by his brothers Wayne (wife Carolyn) and Don (wife Margaret), and many nieces and nephews. Pete was a proud 4th degree Knight and an honorary member of the Kern County Basque Club. Recitation of the Rosary will be Tuesday, August 5 at St. John's at 7 pm, and full mass on Wednesday, August 6 at St. John's at 10 am. Christian burial at Wasco Cemetery will follow. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2pm to 6pm at Peters Funeral Home, Wasco. In lieu of flowers donations can be forwarded to Wasco Chapter Knights of Columbus in memory of Pete Schulte 17823 Magnolia Ave., Shafter, CA 93263 or The Kern County Basque Club Scholarship Foundation in memory of Pete Schulte at P.O Box 416 Bakersfield, CA 93302, Alzheimer's Association of Bakersfield, 5500 Olive Dr, Bakersfield, CA 93308 and/or a charity of your choice.
