Alma passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends on July 10, 2010 in Shafter, CA. She was born in 1931 in Arkansas and settled in Shafter in 1970. She was the eldest of 5 children born to Fritz and Rosetta Spain. In 1948 she married John Mullen in Springfield, Oregon. Alma is survived by her husband of 62 years, John Mullen, by her children: Aletta Gilmore and husband Dick, Johnnie Mullen and wife Margaret, Kathy Nixon and husband Ben, Tena Flitcraft, and Max Mullen and wife Mandy, and by her sisters: Nelda, Leila, and Betzi. She also has 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Alma loved painting, God's art, gardening, and above all her family. She enjoyed reliving the happy moments with family by scrapbooking and creating photo albums. She will be remembered for her giving spirit as well as her acceptance and support for all members of the family. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Glen, and her beloved grandson Warren. The family would like to thank Golden Living Center, Hoffman Hospice, and her roommate Nannie Sue Campbell for their loving care. Funeral services will be held at Shafter Memorial Park on Wednesday, July 14, at 10:00am. Pastor Steve Mann will officiate and interment will follow.
