Alice L. Young has left us to be with our Lord and Savior on January 12, 2011; born in Double Spring, Alabama on January 23, 1917, one of two siblings born to Beulah (Miller) and Arthur Lee Hill. She lost her mother at a very young age and was raised by her loving father; attended the local elementary schools then starting working in odd jobs. She met her late beloved husband Gerald Young; married in Sayre, Oklahoma in 1936 and came to Kern County, California in 1937 via Weedpatch, settling in Arvin, CA as Gerald was a supervisor for the local Guimarra Company. Although Alice was a home body, Leon, her son, enjoyed taking long vacations, they traveled to Hawaii, Yellowstone, New Orleans, the Grand Canyon and New Mexico just to name a few. She loved attending services at Nazarene of Arvin, where she was a member. Alice L. Young was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gerald Young (1982); brother Alvin Hill (1994) and survived by her caring son Leon Young. A graveside service for Alice L. Young, age 93, of Bakersfield is scheduled for Friday, January 21, 2011 – 11am at South Kern Cemetery District with Pastor Elmer Moody officating. Visitation will be at Arvin Funeral Home, Thursday January 20th from 5 to 8pm.
