Alice Waters was born on July 23, 1922, in Porum, Oklahoma to William Clifton Mathews and Lottie Mathews. She attended the local schools in Porum where some of her fondness memories were playing on the girl's basketball team. Alice married Floyd Waters Oct. 6, 1937 and they started their family on an 80 acre farm in Porum. Hard times forced the family to move to California in 1951. On several occasions afterwards, Floyd saved money and returned to Oklahoma with hopes of reviving the family farm. Finally in 1957 the farm was sold and the family settled in Shafter California. Alice was primarily a homemaker but also help to supplement the family income while working with her family in the fields and later at Richland School as a cafeteria worker. Alice loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Jesus Saves Church and the First Assembly of God Church and enjoyed many church activities such as quilting and baking. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd (1973); son, Hal (1993); grandson, Stephen Warren Waters (1965); her parents, 3 brothers and 3 sisters. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Harvey and Shirley, Warren and Jerelene, Brady and Janell, Otis and Carey, Jerry and Martha, Hal's widow, Naomi Waters, Robert and Peggy Waters; daughters, Hattie Grills, Nancy and husband, Darryl Smith, Karen and husband, James Strange, Ronda and husband, Brian Jackson; and numerous loving grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Thanks to Kern Crest Manor and Shafter Convalescent Hospital for their many years of care to her during her long illness with Alzheimer's. Special thanks to Dr. Robert Hagen for always treating her with dignity and kindness. A funeral service will be held at Peters Funeral Home on Monday, December 31, 2007, at 11am, for Alice Louise Waters, age 85, of Shafter, who passed away December 26, 2007, in Shafter. Pastor L. V. Lawson will officiate the service and interment will follow at Shafter Memorial Park. A visitation will be held at Peters Funeral Home on Sunday, December 30, 2007, from 2 to 8.
