Obituary

Aldeen Mae Boese was born November 12, 1916 in Rosedale, California to Abraham and Anna Boese in their home on Snow Road near the Calloway Canal. In 1918, her family moved to a 20-acre farm near Shafter. She graduated from Shafter High School in 1936 and attended Bakersfield College. She was employed by the Kern County Welfare Department where she met Mayhew Slitor, who was also employed there. On June 15, 1950 they married in Bakersfield and began their life together in Shafter. Mayhew and Aldeen had four children; Jay Slitor, who died in infancy, Marian Cosso of San Jose, Philip (Lana) Slitor of Visalia and Glenn (Janice) Slitor of Bakersfield. Mayhew passed away in 1998. Aldeen continued to live in Shafter until 2004, at which time she moved to the Glenwood Gardens apartments in Bakersfield where she lived the remainder of her life. Aldeen enjoyed good health through her long life and passed away peacefully of natural causes of old age September 13, 2014. Aldeen enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, canning, reading, music, travelling, vacationing on the coast and at her rustic cabin in Alta Sierra, and independent living at Glenwood Gardens. She was a devoted wife and mother, caring for her husband for nearly 50 years and keenly interested her three children, whom she loved greatly. Aldeen was a faithful Christian her entire life and attended the Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church since the church was founded in 1918 and where she maintained her membership. Aldeen was predeceased by her sister, Edna Nicks, and survived by her sister, Donna Penner, of Shafter. In addition to three of her children, Aldeen is also survived by grandsons Scott and Daniel Cosso of San Jose; granddaughter Valerie (Ben) Hatcher of Los Angeles and step-grandson Bill (Dominique) Moseley of Bakersfield and their children, Stanzi, Robby, Gabbi, Julian, Samara, Maya and Kai. Graveside services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at the Shafter Cemetery. The memorial service will follow at the Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 17, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
