IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Agnes Loura
Koehn
February 13, 1918 – April 2, 2008
Agnes was born on the ranch in 1918 in Shafter, California. She was the sixth child born to A.D. and Helena Koehn. There were four boys and three girls in the Koehn family. A.D. Koehn, Agnes' father, purchased the land from the Kern County Land Company in 1913. Anthony "Tony" Koehn inherited the ranch from his grandfather. The property remains the Koehn Ranch. Agnes loved living on the ranch. She loved to take an active part in the farming operations. Agnes is the last of her immediate family. Agnes' father lived to 96; her mother to 92. Agnes never married. She loved her brother Arnold's children as her own. She baked cookies, taught them games and how to swim. During World War II, she worked as "Rosie the Riveter" on airplanes at Minter Field to help in the war effort. She baked cookies and all kind of goodies to send overseas to her brother who was serving in General Patton's 3rd Army. Agnes had a beautiful voice. She and the Reckeranm conducted by John Farrer. She was also an accomplished pianist. She attended the Shafter schools first through 12th grades. Agnes was baptized in the Mennonite Church as a child where her family and her mother's parents, Abraham Seiberts, worshipped. The Seiberts moved to Shafter some five years before A.D. Koehn and his family. Agnes had many medical problems which made her life difficult. Agnes leaves three nephews; Larry Koehn, Anthony Koehn and Roy Balzer. She leaves three nieces; Janice Balzer, Sharon Balzer and Lesa Koehn Kabrich in LA; and sister-in-law Lee Koehn of Shafter. May God's loving arms surround you as you rejoin your family. Rest peaceful Agnes. Private services wereheld Sunday, April 27 at the ranch she loved.
