Funeral services will be conducted by Peters Funeral Home for Aduel H. Mettler, age 97, on Thursday, April 26, 2007, at 10:00am, at the Ebenezer Reformed Church, 235 James St. Shafter. Interment will follow at Shafter Memorial Park. Pastor Vernon Pollema will officiate at the service. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2007, from 2-8pm, at Peters Funeral Home. Aduel H. Mettler died April 20, 2007, at Long Beach Community Hospital. He was born August 23, 1909, in Menno, South Dakota, to Henry F. and Lydia Mettler, and moved to Shafter with his family in 1921, where he first farmed with his father. In 1935, he married Anna M. Bender, and farmed on his own first in Rosedale and later in the Shafter area until his retirement; when he moved into Shafter. He was a life-time member of Ebenezer Reformed Church in Shafter, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent while his children were in attendance. Aduel is survived by his sons, Robert of Long Beach, and Lawrence of Mission Viejo; his daughters, Rosella Dalke of Santa Cruz, Diana Jones of Shingle Springs, and Barbara Osell of Long Beach; ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. One of ten children he is survived by two sisters, Irene Daines of Sacramento, and Elsie Warren of Shafter. Aduel was preceded in death by his wife, Anna in 1996, and a granddaughter, Pamela Dalke in 1988. Also preceding him in death were his brothers, Alvin, Raymond, Ruben and Elmer; and sisters, Aletha Taylor, Leona Heinrichs, and Hildegarde Rose.
