Adriana Torres Vazquez was born March 5, 1936 to Pastor and Maria Vazquez in Shafter, California. She attended local schools, graduated from Shafter High School and went on to complete business school. Adriana moved to Los Angeles in 1965 and became head cashier for Oshman's Sporting Goods retiring after 20 years of service. She was a very spiritual person and a regularly attended Mass. Adriana managed the apartment building she lived in and worked hard to make it a better living environment. She was community oriented, interested in public safety and helped organize an anti-gang unit and the neighborhood watch. Adriana received the Pearl Award from the City of Los Angeles for her activism. She loved the urban life and walking in the city. Adriana was an active and very independent woman who loved to shop, go to the movies and enjoy the beauty around her. Adriana is survived by her 3 sisters, Nicolaza Vazquez and Mary Louise Vazquez, both of Shafter and Helen Vazquez of Los Angeles; her special nieces, Nicole Vazquez and Delfina Jennette; and many loving nieces, nephews and other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Antonio, David John, Jules, Pastor, Angelo and sisters, Delfina Vazquez and Esther Carrillo. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Tuesday, June 3, at 6pm at Peters Funeral Home for Adriana Torres Vazquez, age 77, of Los Angeles who passed away June 2, in Los Angeles. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated, Wednesday, June 4 at 9am at St. Therese's Catholic Church. Fr. Pedro Umana will officiate the service and interment will follow at Shafter Memorial Park. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 3 from 2pm – 8pm at Peters Funeral Home. Suggested donations may be made in Adriana's name to the Lupus Foundation or St. Jude's Hospital.
