Adela Montanez was born on May 5, 1995, to Juan and Juana Montanez in Bakersfield. Adela was a student at Richland Jr. High. She enjoyed playing with dogs and rabbits, and planned on being a veterinary when she grew up. She loved being home with her family. Adela was also a member of the Shafter Folkloric dance group; a dance group that teaches children how to dance traditional Mexican folk dancing. Adela is survived by her parents, Juan and Juana; brother, Sebastian all of Shafter; grandparents, Joel and Adela Montanez, and Ramon and Elida Ruiz all of Mexico; cousins, Ishmael and Iliana Montanez and Esther, Ashley and Ruben Garcia. Recitation of the Holy Rosary was held at Peters Funeral Home on Monday, March 31, 2008, at 6pm, for Adela Montanez, age 12, of Shafter, who passed away March 24, 2008, in Valencia. Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at 2pm. Father Pedro Umana of St. Therese's Catholic Church officiated the service and inurnment was private.
