Abdon Montoya Valenzuela was born on July 30, 1917 in El Limon Sinaloa, Mexico to Francisco Montoya and Feliciana Valenzuela. Abdon spent many years working in agriculture while raising his family in Shafter. He married Maria Del Rosario and together they watched their ten children grow into honorable adults. As his family continued to grow abundantly throughout the years; Abdon was able to make time for everyone in his life. He valued time with family at many celebrations, where he was the life of the party. He loved music, dancing, and flirting with women. If Abdon wasn't enjoying himself at a family function; he was spending time at the casinos or tending to his garden. He was especially fond of growing tomatoes. Abdon wrote and played many songs on his Taylor acoustic guitar, which he continued to play until his last days of his life. Abdon embraced God's loving arms on August 12, 2015 surrounded by his beloved family. He was 98 years old. Abdon is survived by his 10 children; sons, Abdon (Maria Dolores) Montoya, Eustaquio (Ruth) Montoya, Esteban (Bency) Montoya, Ramon (Maria De Jesus) Montoya, Eduardo (Dora) Montoya, Manuel Montoya; daughters, Maria D. (Jose Isabel) Ochoa, Maria R. (Melecio) Gutierrez, Maria E. (Jose) Hinojosa, Maria J. (David) Guerrero; 70 grandchildren, 140 great grandchildren, and 13 great great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Maria Del Rosario Montoya; parents, Francisco and Feliciana Montoya; grandsons, Christopher Montoya, Daniel Hinojosa; granddaughter, Maria Del Rosario Montoya; great grandson, Angel Montoya; great granddaughter, Vianey Gutierrez. A Funeral service was officiated by Eduardo Villavicencio at the Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church on Monday, August 17, 2015 at 10am. A visitation was held Sunday, August 16, 2015 from 2-8pm at Peters Funeral Home in Shafter, California. A recitation of the Holy Rosary was at 6:30 pm.
